Family Camping Field Trip

September 13-15, 2019

Rescheduled from April

Join NCHE and homeschool families from across the state for our 2nd Annual Family Camping Trip!  This year, families will camp at the Parker’s Creek campground of Jordan Lake State Park.  The park, located in Chatham County, surrounds a 14,000 acre reservoir, so there is plenty opportunity for fishing and boating.  Nearly 14 miles of hiking trails wind across the hilly lake shore, with most of them offering easy, brief hikes perfect for family outings. Spotting bald eagles and osprey is just one of many opportunities to view wildlife, and the lake’s ecology is further explored in the visitor center exhibit hall.  And, just for NCHE, there will be a ranger-led hike focusing on tree identification and the history of the area.  You can also participate in a group campfire on Saturday evening.

Our camping trip allows for arrival as early as 5 p.m. on Friday, September 13 and to remain through Sunday, September 15 in the Parker’s Creek campground area.  These are tent campsites (sorry, no RVs).  Showers and restrooms are conveniently located.

So, gather your camping gear and get ready to make friends with other homeschoolers and memories with you family! Just $25 pays for your camping space including parking for your family for both nights. Space is limited.  Pre-registration is required.  Reservations are transferable to another family for the same date but are non-refundable. Registration deadline is 11:59 p.m. September 6.
