Who isn’t charmed by Tchaikovsky’s Christmas classic, The Nutcracker Ballet?  On Christmas Eve, the child Clara receives a beautifully carved Nutcracker as a gift from her godfather.  During the night she returns to the parlor to check on her treasure and falls asleep with the nutcracker in her arms.  As the clock strikes midnight, she dreams that the Nutcracker transforms into a life-sized prince and fights an invading army of mice!  The Mouse King is defeated when Clara throws a slipper, hitting him on the head. Clara and the handsome prince then travel to the Land of Sweets which is being ruled by the Sugar Plum Fairy until the Prince’s return. Clara awakens from her dream, once again in the parlor by her own Christmas tree, holding her nutcracker.
