National Homeschool Honor Society

Eta Sigma Alpha National Homeschool Honor Society was founded in 1999. As of July 2021, the Society has thirteen active local chapters in North Carolina. Additionally, there is a fourteenth non-affiliated/independent honor society in the Indian Trail area. While each chapter has its own flavor and local requirements, the overarching purpose of membership in the honor society chapters is to recognize and encourage scholarship among homeschooled students. To do this, the honor society chapters provide opportunities for leadership, service, and exposure to qualified speakers on a range of topics. Chapters encourage the development of an intellectual climate that will stimulate the exchange of ideas and ideals, foster scholarship, and promote academic excellence.

In general, membership in the chapters is open to 9th-12th grade homeschooled students who have a standardized test score on one of the following tests: (NOTE: Test scores may be no more than one year old and may NOT have been administered by a family member. Once students qualify for membership, they do not need to re-qualify in subsequent years.)

Other: The Northern Wake National Home School Honor Society is open to academically talented junior high and high school home-schoolers of all faiths. Our mission is to encourage the development of young men and women as they undertake paths to college and career. We hope to foster in our society an intellectual climate that will stimulate the exchange of ideas and ideals, encourage  scholarship, and promote community service. We are committed to the values of honesty, good character, and success through effort. We are also a Certifying Organization for the President’s Volunteer Service Award.  Activities include monthly meetings with guest speakers focused on professions and the preparation for those professions, as well as service projects and social outings.  Students are expected to attend a minimum of two-thirds of the total meetings per year and provide a minimum of ten hours of community service. The organization is run by student officers and assisted by adult advisors.
