Carolina Sunshine Alpaca Farm
Pittsboro, NC
Tuesday, April 18, 2023
Rain date: Tuesday, April 25, 2023

Did you know:

  1. The wool of alpacas is non-flammable and water resistant?
  2. Because alpacas tend to be tidy animals, keeping their “bathroom” areas away from their grazing land, some have even been house-trained?
  3. Baby alpacas, called “crias,” are always born in the morning?
  4. Alpacas are very friendly with human children and sociable with dogs, cats, donkeys, horses, sheep and goats?

Join NCHE at Carolina Sunshine Alpaca Farm in Pittsboro.  The farm will only be open to NCHE registrants on the day of our visit.  Families will check-in and self-pace your learning experience, spending as much or little time as you wish in each area.  Farm staff will be stationed throughout the property to tell about the animals and answer all your questions.  Picnics are encouraged and educational coloring sheets and crayons will be available for all in the picnic shelter. Additionally, the farm will provide other fun things to do such as yard games, bubbles, and sidewalk chalk.  Average visit time is 1-2 hours.  You will also be asked to select an arrival time (below) so that guests can be spread out throughout the day, with check-in time being between 10 and noon.

A word about the RAIN DATE POLICY:  It seems that alpacas do not like rain and will head to their barns if the weather is wet. Who knew, right?  Visitors are not permitted in the barns.  So, Carolina Sunshine will make a final weather determination on Monday based on the local forecast. As soon as they determine the weather will be suitable (or not), NCHE will let you know.  If it is good enough for the alpacas, the field trip will proceed “damp or shine.”   When deciding whether this field trip will work for your family, please consider that we might need to postpone for a week.

Registration will be open until noon, on Sunday, April 16, 2023, or while supply lasts.  Check-in will be at 10, 10:30, 11, 11:30 and noon (select which works best for you).  Admission is $10.95 for everyone 3 and older; 2 and younger are free but still need to be counted in our registration. Tickets are transferable to others for the same day but are non-refundable.

HEALTH POLICY:  An inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 and other communicable illnesses exists in any public place.  By participating in this field trip, you voluntarily assume all risk related to exposure of COVID-19 and other communicable illnesses. Prior to the field trip, you will receive an email with a self check form. To see the NCHE health checklist now, please click here.
