Vendor Workshop Descriptions

SESSION 1: 2:30-3:30 p.m.

  • Christian Personal Finance, Making Money Work—Handling personal finances from a Christian perspective.
  • The Reluctant Reader, Math-U-See/Demme Learning—This workshop will focus on children who are having trouble with reading and spelling and the non-traditional learner. We’ll talk about blending different approaches and things to look for that may be blocking learning pathways. Bring a notebook!
  • The Changing World of Writing for Career and College Readiness, NC Write by Measurement Incorporated—Strong writing skills are critical to the success of college and career ready students! Research shows that a student’s writing skills are one of the best predictors of college success and a gatekeeper for hiring in the workplace. In this session, participants will explore innovative writing strategies using NC Write, the nation’s leading automated essay scoring tool. The session will include product demonstration, real-time scoring of an essay, and engaging interactive tutorials.
  • Algebra, Division and Fractions! Oh My! Taking the Fear out of Teaching Math, A+ Interactive Math—In this session, homeschooling mom, Heather Bowen, will share how she has overcome her fear of teaching math and give you the confidence you need to teach even higher level math.      

SESSION 2: 4:00-5:00 p.m.

Yet this deficiency can enormously impact student academic performance. Learn how to address this dangerous shortfall in your curricula.

SESSION 5: 12:30-1:30 p.m.

So come join the discussion on organizing time, lessons and activities in order to get it all done.
  • Want to Help Your Child with English and Math? Mrs J—Easy ways to teach number bonds, times tables, language and vocabulary through playing games. For new parents or those with children up to 10 years old.
  • Latin, the Essential Foundation for Language Arts, Memoria Press—Latin used to be ubiquitous in the educational world but dropped out of fashion in the mid-20th century. In recent years there has been a resurgence of interest in this classical language. It is the key to teaching precise grammar skills, accurate vocabulary and critical thinking at a young age. Come to hear about the link between Latin and educational achievement. Effective teaching techniques will also be addressed.

SESSION 8: 4:50-5:50 p.m.

These little ones seem to seek attention at the wrong time. What can we do at those times to creatively involve them in the learning process?   • A Survey of the Fundamental Rights in the U.S. Bill of Rights (And Various Other Things), Don Brown Books—In the first Ten Amendments of the Constitution, known as the Bill of Rights, the founders set forth absolute rights held by individuals to protect citizens against the powers of an out-of-control federal government. But because the Bill of Rights have not been taught adequately in the public school, and not even in most homeschools and Christian schools, most students have a poor grasp or understanding of them. While each and every one of these fundamental rights could be subject to a lecture in and of itself, because of a deficiency in teaching the Bill of Rights, Don will in this lecture speak on the Bill of Rights generally, with an emphasis on a number of the fundamental rights contained therein and where those rights can be found.

SESSION 11: 1:50-2:50 p.m.
