Conference Information


BENTON CONVENTION CENTER--The Benton Conference Center is located in downtown Winston-Salem. For information about the Benton conference center, visit the Benton Convention Center website.

Vendor Hall Only Registration—This includes admission to the vendor hall and vendor workshops.

Full Conference Registration—This entitles you to attend the vendor hall, all conference and vendor workshops and keynote sessions, teen and alum activities, the talent showcase.

Wristbands and Name Tags—Attendees registered for the full conference will wear green wristbands. Attendees registered for the vendor hall only will wear yellow wristbands. Speakers, NCHE officers and the conference team will wear green name tags. Vendors wear blue name tags.

Tickets for Individual Events—If you are not registered for the full conference and would like to attend a workshop session, keynote, teen and alumni dance, teen and alumni games social, talent showcase, you can buy a ticket for $5 to attend each of these. Purchase tickets at the registration table and then give them to a door monitor to attend the individual event.

Conference Happenings

Leaders’ Luncheon and Workshop—NCHE hosts a special luncheon just for our homeschool leaders on Thursday 12:00-1:00 p.m. in the Pavilion. Preregistration is required. A leaders’ workshop, Twenty-first Century Homeschooling: What Leaders Need to Know by Debra Bell, is from 1:15-2:15 p.m. in the Gaines Ballroom. This workshop is open to all. The recording number is CD/MP3 # 1.

Conference Workshops—Conference workshops are talks by speakers who have been invited to participate in our conference. The topics are usually inspirational or instructional about homeschooling and family. Admission requires full conference registration or a $5 ticket.

Vendor Workshops—A vendor workshop is a talk by one of our vendors and usually explains their product in more detail than they are able to give in the vendor hall. Admission requires full conference registration or vendor hall only registration.

Keynotes—There are three keynotes, Thursday 7:30 p.m., Friday 9:00 a.m., and Saturday 9:00 a.m. in Room A. A keynote session begins with a thirty minute period of general business and then a keynote address by one of our featured speakers. Admission requires full conference registration or a $5 ticket.

Mentoring—Experienced homeschool moms will be waiting to answer your homeschooling questions as well as help you weave through the maze of the vendor hall and curriculum choices. We will have mentors at the mentor table just outside the vendor hall doors and beside the Information Table, just inside the main doors of the Benton. The vendor hall mentor table hours are 12:45-6:45 p.m. on Thursday, 9:15 a.m.-6:15 p.m. on Friday, and 9:15 a.m.-3:15 p.m. on Saturday. The Benton main door mentor table hours are 12:00-4:30 p.m. on Thursday, 7:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Friday, and 7:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Chess Tournament—The K-12 chess tournament is held on Thursday from 3:00-6:00 p.m. in Terrace 1 in the Embassy. Preregistration is required to participate.

Teen and Alumni Cotillion-Style Dance—With an emphasis on instruction, NCHE offers this dance for our teens and alumni on Thursday 7:30 p.m. in the Pavilion It is a highlight of the conference for our young people. Admission requires full conference registration or a $5 ticket.

Regional Gatherings—We are having a time on Thursday evening, just after the keynote, 9:15 p.m., to meet others from your NCHE region. Find your region in the map under happenings and the room for your region and plan to attend the regional gathering.

Teen and Alumni Games Social—A games social will be held in the Pavilion Friday night from the closing of the talent show until 11:00 p.m. NCHE will provide cards, board games and group games. Admission requires full conference registration or a $5 ticket.

Alumni Coffee Social—All alumni are invited to join us for coffee and snacks in the event director’s suite in the Marriott Hotel at 9:45 p.m. Thursday for a relaxing time to hang out with other homeschool alumni. For the room number ask at the registration table.

Children’s Program—The children’s program is provided by Giant Cow Ministries. Children must be preregistered in order to attend. It is located in the Hearn Ballroom in the Marriott.

College and Camp Fair—This is an opportunity for students to meet and talk with college recruiters who are interested in homeschooled students. There are also several area camps represented, as well as a few non-profit organizations. This will be 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on Friday and is located in the Garden Terrace on the second floor of the Embassy Suites.

NCHE Athletic Commission All-Star Basketball and Volleyball Games—The Eastern and Western Region All-Star games will be played at Salem Baptist Christian School, on Spring Street between Bank Street and Wachovia Street, on Friday. Admission charge: $5 per person; $20 maximum per family (Conference $5 tickets do not apply).

Talent Showcase—Students who have been selected from an audition process showcase their talents Friday at 7:45 p.m. in the main auditorium (North Main/Room A). Admission requires full conference registration or a $5 ticket.

Graduation—NCHE hosts a state-wide homeschool high school graduation ceremony on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. (admission not until 4:45 p.m.) in rooms South Main and North Main. All are invited to attend.

Conference Recordings

Audio recordings—Audio recordings of conference workshops and keynotes will be reproduced in two ways: CDs or MP3s. Each recording will have a number which will be listed in the program, on the recording order form and in the NCHE Online Store. The recording order forms may be found at registration or at the recording order table located in the South Hall outside South Main 3.

Purchasing CDs and MP3s on Discs—Recordings in CD format are available for sale following the sessions and will be available for purchase only at the conference. A complete set of all recordings (MP3s on a DVD-ROM disc) may also be purchased at the conference. NCHE will not ship or mail CDs or DVD-ROMs. They must be picked up by the end of the conference.

Purchasing MP3s for Download—Recordings in MP3 format may be ordered online at the NCHE Online Store. They can then be downloaded when they are available on the NCHE website (about two hours after each session). Once they are purchased, MP3s may be downloaded at any time.

Prices for Audio Recordings—CDs are $5.50 each, MP3s are $4.50 each, DVD-ROMs with MP3s of all the recorded workshops are $140.00 each. (Taxes included.)

Video Recordings—AV Connections (AVC) records DVDs of all keynotes, several sessions by our featured speakers, the talent showcase and the graduation ceremonies. These recordings may be ordered onsite at the AVC table in the North Hall outside North Main A, or through their website at www.avconnectionsusa.com.


Room Signs—We are using the Benton Convention Center’s electronic room signs to identify the workshops that will be in each room. The sign is located on the wall next to the door.

Workshop Handouts—Many of the speakers prepare a handout (with notes about their talks) to contribute to their workshop. These can be found online at http://www.nche.com/conference/2015/handouts.

Nursing Mothers Room—We have set aside conference room 2, on the first floor of the Benton, for the convenience of nursing mothers.

Lost and Found—Lost and Found is located at the registration table and at the NCHE table in the vendor hall.

Hotel Reservations for Marriott and Embassy Suites for the 2016 Conference—These reservations can be made beginning October 1, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. Rooms will go very quickly, but many times there are more available before the conference as people release their reservations. Note that next year the conference will be June 2-4.
